INTEL CASE STUDY

OsKaRs Award Night Ceremony (100 performers, 400 guests)

Intel is the biggest computer chip manufacturer in the world, and amazingly, it has held that record for almost thirty years.  In 1989, the company chose to locate its European manufacturing centre in Leixlip.  It was an inspired decision, and the Co Kildare site continues to thrive to this day.  Intel plays a major role in the Irish economy, through research, investment, employment and support of both local and national suppliers.  The company employs nearly 5,000 people in Ireland, the majority in its advanced industrial plant in Leixlip.

Intel has a well-deserved reputation for looking after its staff, and is always supportive of initiatives that build team dynamics and improve co-operation between staff.  As a way of doing this, and also to raise money for charity, Intel staff and management came together to hold their own “OsKaRs” night.  Organised by HiJack, the OsKaRs are a great experience where participants get the chance to appear on the big screen in professional quality movies.

Nearly Intel 100 staff were involved in the actual film shoots, with different departments battling it out to win the top prizes on the night of the OsKaRs.  The HiJack team includes professionals from the film world, with coaches to train the actors, and directors and camera crew to shoot the movies.  Together with the Intel staff, the HiJack team produced seven highly polished, short films, including movies based on Pulp Fiction, The Snapper and The Blues Brothers.

With all of the films “in the can”, it was time for the events management staff of the HiJack team to swing into action.  There was great anticipation and excitement throughout Intel in the run up to the Gala launch night.  For the film premieres, the actors and other staff members were joined by family and friends.  The Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin has recently undergone a €15m refurbishment, and the upgraded facilities made it the ideal location for the screening of the films.  Radio presenter Adrian Kennedy was present on the night as master of ceremonies, and as part the Intel OsKaRs, significant funds were raised for charities Saplings Rathfarnum and Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team.

James Cullen, HR Business Partner at Intel, helped to co-ordinate the event, and was very pleased with the whole experience.  He commented, “The OsKaRs created a big buzz around the company, and were a great way of bringing staff together and strengthening the bonds between them.  We were delighted at the results, and just as importantly, so were the team members who took part: a copy of the film they acted in makes a wonderful keepsake.  The whole experience was an excellent team building exercise, and the OsKaRs also delivered an unforgettable night out for staff and their friends and family.”
