Stewarts Care Family Fun Day for 800 Service Users, Staff, Volunteers & Friends.
Stewarts Care is a voluntary organisation which provides community-based services to people with an intellectual disability. In 2019, the organisation celebrated its 150th anniversary, making it one of the longest established charitable foundations in Ireland. From its main campus in Palmerstown, Stewarts Care provides a broad range of services and supports for nearly 800 adults and children.
Dean Rock, the Head of Fundraising at Stewarts Care, wanted to organise a Family Fun Day for everyone connected with the organisation. His objective was to create a great experience for the service users, staff, volunteers, family and friends, by bringing everyone together. He was also keen to create a buzz on the campus, making it a team building event, using the event to boost staff morale, improve team dynamics and enhance service user / staff interaction. The day was also a chance for the organisation to thank volunteers for their time, and for staff, service users and their families to come together in a fun environment.
The HiJack team helped to make the Family Day a huge success. It was especially important to be sensitive to the needs of the service users. Accordingly, the team liaised closely with the Stewarts Care Health & Safety Officer, medical team and in-house staff to ensure that all elements of the event were appropriate and tailored to the needs of the service users.
The event itself was held outdoors on the Palmerstown Campus, with over 1,000 attendees. The HiJack team organised a wide range of attractions for the day, including bouncy castles, face painting, and simple but fun games like egg and spoon races and relays. The team took comprehensive charge for all aspects of the event, also providing an MC, a DJ and a food vending van.
The success of the day could be judged by the smiles on the faces of everyone who attended, and by the happy service users who asked when the event was happening again!
